My Story
I have always believed the postpartum period should be one you can look back on and feel happy about. Too many women feel disappointed with how their first few weeks at home with their new baby went. They felt scared, exhausted and overwhelmed. This is a problem for so many women because they simply don't have the support system they need. Our culture has changed: many families live away from relatives, women are working longer hours, and we don't have the village dynamic anymore. We simply are left to figure it out on our own. I want to help women get what they need to feel good both emotionally and physically. Even if it just means holding their baby, so they can get a shower. I want to be there to support them.
My desire to help families began over 20 years ago when I started working as a nanny. I was in peoples homes, seeing first hand what they needed in order to thrive, seeing the struggles they faced. I watched mothers bring home their new babies and attempt to survive it alone. However, I didn't realize what this attempt at survival really felt like until I had my own babies; the exhaustion, the pain, the anxiety and fear that I wasn't doing everything right. This was the point where I realized I wanted to help families on a deeper level. In 2017 I started my journey as a DONA certified Postpartum Doula.
Guiding families through the early postpartum period became my passion. I loved knowing that a little support could change how a new mom felt, empowering them to get through the day, and enjoy their time with their baby. Healthy meals, a clean house, breastfeeding support, these things make all the difference in the beginning.
While working as a doula I very quickly came to realize that sleep was the key to a family that thrived. Helping new moms balance feeding and sleep was important to me, so I became certified lactation counselor as well as certified a Pediatric sleep consultant through the Family Sleep Institute. This in depth training gave me skills to not only help families with a new baby but also families with older children struggling with sleep.
In my free time I enjoy camping, paddle boarding, reading as well as spending time with my two crazy kids and husband.
